Never far from criticism, two-time WWE Hall of Famer and nowadays AEW talent Ric Flair has received major backlash for comments made on X this weekend.
In the first of two deleted X posts, Flair took aim at Jim Ross for “seeking attention”.
The legendary JR underwent surgery earlier this week to have colon cancer removed. Jim has since updated fans to say that the surgery went well, that the cancer has been removed, and that he’s now thankfully on the road to recovery.
More recent years have since Ric Flair be critical of Jim Ross for Ross’ involvement in the Dark Side of the Ring TV show, saying that Jim has no credibility with Flair as a result. Previously, an infamous WWE 2K14 promotional panel – led by Jim Ross and featuring, amongst others, Ric Flair – went off the rails, to the point that Jim was soon out of WWE for failing to control that panel, and reports at the time suggested this soured the relationship between Ross and Flair. Prior to that, the two had worked together for decades across various promotions, with Jim proclaiming the Nature Boy as the greatest wrestler of all time, and Flair likewise saying Jim is the greatest wrestling commentator of all time.
Shortly after that X post was deleted, Flair then posted what he referred to as The Woooo Compromise:
In case the above screenshot isn’t clear enough, The Woooo Compromise reads:
By Signing This Compromise, both parties involved agree to ride Space Mountain and engage in sexual relations on this night. This contract adheres to guidelines of informed consent, and both people in the relationship must be present and not in an intoxicated state before signing. No party should be pressured or persuaded into something that they do not want to do, and they reserve the right to terminate the contract if need be. This contract has the signed and sealed approval of The Nature Boy Ric Flair, who has taken many women for a ride on Space Mountain, and has the utmost respect for women.
Again, that Wooooo Compromise post is another that was quickly deleted after Ric Flair received further backlash.
One X post that is still available at the time of this writing, is Ric’s response to those fans calling him out for his latest social media activity:
It’s not entirely clear whether the “joke” Flair references is his Wooooo Compromise or his remarks about Jim Ross, though it does seem more likely that Ric is referring to his “lighthearted fun” about sexual consent.
Either way, both initial posts were, at best, in bad taste, poorly thought out, and insensitive. To even jokingly suggest Jim Ross is “attention seeking” as he recovers from cancer surgery, on the back of the other health issues and tragedy Jim has been through in more recent years, that’s pretty deplorable. For sexual consent to be joked about with “Space Mountain”, that’s also horrendous, particularly when you take into account the allegations that have been brought against Flair over the years.
