शराब कारोबारी और किंगफिशर एयरलाइंस के पूर्व प्रमुख विजय माल्या एक बार फिर लोगों की नज़रों में आ गए हैं, इस बार उद्यमी और कंटेंट क्रिएटर राज शमनी के साथ एक विस्तृत पॉडकास्ट के बाद। जबकि माल्या की कानूनी लड़ाई और भारत से हाई-प्रोफाइल निकासी सुर्खियों में बनी हुई है, ध्यान उनकी शानदार जीवनशैली के सबसे प्रतिष्ठित पहलुओं में से एक पर गया है – गोवा में प्रसिद्ध किंगफिशर विला।
तीन एकड़ में फैले इस विला में 12,000 वर्ग फीट से ज़्यादा जगह है और यह फोर्ट अगुआडा के रास्ते पर स्थित है और गोवा की राजधानी पणजी से सिर्फ़ 20 किलोमीटर दूर है। कभी माल्या और उनके करीबी लोगों के लिए एक निजी पार्टी डेस्टिनेशन हुआ करता था, यह विला शुरू में यूनाइटेड ब्रूअरीज होल्डिंग्स (UBH) के अधीन था, जो अब बंद हो चुकी किंगफिशर एयरलाइंस की मूल कंपनी है। माल्या के डिफॉल्ट और कानूनी परेशानियों के बाद, इस संपत्ति को भारतीय स्टेट बैंक के नेतृत्व में बैंकों के एक संघ ने अपने अधीन कर लिया, जिसने खरीदार मिलने से पहले कई नीलामी की कोशिश की।
जोशी, जिन्हें अज़ान और जैकपॉट जैसी फिल्मों में उनकी भूमिकाओं के लिए जाना जाता है, वाइकिंग वेंचर्स के संस्थापक भी हैं, जो एक विविध कंपनी है जो FMCG उत्पादों (मादक और गैर-मादक पेय पदार्थों सहित), आतिथ्य, बुनियादी ढाँचे, मनोरंजन और कल्याण में काम करती है। जोशी ने 2015 में इम्पाला डिस्टिलरी और ब्रूअरी से गोवा स्थित किंग्स बीयर ब्रांड को 90 करोड़ रुपये में खरीदा था। किंगफिशर विला को अपने कब्जे में लेने के बाद, जोशी ने अपने मौजूदा पोर्टफोलियो के साथ तालमेल बिठाने के लिए इसका नाम बदलकर ‘किंग्स मेंशन’ रख दिया। उस समय उन्होंने कहा, “आज वह दिन है जब मैं दुनिया के लिए द्वार खोलता हूँ। संपत्ति को ‘किंग्स मेंशन’ के रूप में ताज पहनाया गया है… ‘किंग्स बीयर’ से ब्रांड कनेक्शन और संपत्ति की अंतर्निहित भव्यता ने इसे चुना।”
जबकि माल्या प्रत्यर्पण कार्यवाही का सामना करते हुए ब्रिटेन में ही हैं, उनकी पूर्व गोवा संपत्ति को नया मालिक मिल गया है।
जो कभी माल्या की भव्य पार्टियों का केंद्र था, जो ‘अच्छे समय के राजा’ के रूप में उनकी शानदार सार्वजनिक छवि का प्रतीक था, अब एक बॉलीवुड जोड़े के पास है। आईडीबीआई बैंक से जुड़े 900 करोड़ रुपये के ऋण चूक के सिलसिले में जब्त किए जाने के बाद 2017 में इस विशाल संपत्ति को बेच दिया गया था। उत्तरी गोवा के कैंडोलिम के अपस्केल बीच गांव में स्थित विला अब अभिनेता और उद्यमी सचिन जोशी के पास है, जिन्होंने एक हाई-प्रोफाइल बैंक नीलामी में संपत्ति को सिर्फ 73.01 करोड़ रुपये में खरीदा था।Vijay Mallya, the liquor baron and former Kingfisher Airlines chief, has once again resurfaced in the public eye, this time after an extensive podcast with entrepreneur and content creator Raj Shamani. While Mallya’s legal battles and high-profile exit from India continue to make headlines, attention has turned to one of the most iconic aspects of his opulent lifestyle — the famous Kingfisher Villa in Goa.
What was once the epicentre of Mallya’s lavish parties, symbolic of his flamboyant public image as the ‘King of Good Times,’ is now owned by a Bollywood couple. The sprawling estate was sold in 2017 after being seized in connection with a Rs 900 crore loan default involving IDBI Bank. The villa, located in the upscale beach village of Candolim in North Goa, is now owned by actor and entrepreneur Sachiin Joshi, who purchased the property for just Rs 73.01 crore in a high-profile bank auction.Spread across three acres with more than 12,000 square feet of built-up space, the villa sits along the route to Fort Aguada and is just 20 km from Goa’s capital, Panaji. Once a private party destination for Mallya and his inner circle, the villa was initially held under United Breweries Holdings (UBH), the parent company of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines. Following Mallya’s default and legal troubles, the estate was taken over by a consortium of banks led by the State Bank of India, which attempted several auctions before finding a buyer.
Joshi, known for his roles in films like Azaan and Jackpot, is also the founder of Viiking Ventures, a diversified company which deals in FMCG products (including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages), hospitality, infrastructure, entertainment, and wellness. Joshi had acquired the Goa-based Kings Beer brand from Impala Distillery and Brewery in 2015 for Rs 90 crore.
After taking over the Kingfisher Villa, Joshi renamed it ‘King’s Mansion’ to align with his existing portfolio. At the time he said, “Today is the day I open the gates to the world. The property has been coronated as the ‘King’s Mansion’… the brand connection from ‘King’s Beer’ and the inherent grandeur of the property made the choice.”
While Mallya remains in the UK facing extradition proceedings, his former Goa estate found a new owner.
